Fancy Belgian Double Barrel Percussion Shotgun

Belgium 2nd half 19th century

The lock plates, hammers, and tangs have a floral engraving with a deer engraved on the trigger guard. It has a single bead front sight on a solid rib, Damascus barrels and straight grip stock of select walnut with a checkered wrist, butt-stock sling swivel and flat butt-plate. A German silver or nickle initial shield is positioned on the stock wrist behind the upper tang. Included with the shotgun is an ebony brass tipped ramrod. Length of pull is 14 inches. The maker’s mark is JB under a crown. The bore is marked 17.6MM and a serial #7307

Condition

Excellent. The barrels retain 95% of the brown Damascus with some scattered light pitting. The butt plate retains 97% of the blue finish and the trigger guard retains 30% of the blue finish with the balance a smooth gray patina. The remaining metal surfaces have an attractive gray patina. The stock is fine showing some minor pressure dents and scratches with most of the varnish remaining. Overall the checkering is crisp. Mechanically excellent. 29 1/4 inch solid rib.
