George III Satinwood Lady’s Writing/Sewing Table Ca. 1790

England Ca 1790

A  George III Satinwood Lady’s Writing/Sewing Table Ca. 1790 that functions as a combination sewing and writing table is a delicate beauty. The primary wood is satinwood with single and multiple line inlays. The painted floral swags and flower heads add to the striking appearance. The upper section lifts off by its carrying handle and there is a fold out flap that rests on top of the drawer for a writing surface. Pulling out the drawer reveals a side drawer for writing implements. The pleated silk sewing compartment hangs from a sliding frame which is removable if one prefers the look without the compartment.

For a similar example without the removable top see The Shorter Dictionary of English Furniture by Ralph Edwards page 612, illus. # 7.

W. Kimball Coin Silver Soup Spoons Ca. 1840

Six W. Kimball Coin Silver soup spoons made around 1840. The maker is one of the few I have not been able to definitively locate a record for. The family I purchased them from had 19th century roots in Connecticut. The six of these weigh a total of 8.2 Troy oz.
