Cruikshank Armorial on Early Samson Chinese Style Deep Dish

A a masterful copy, perhaps made to fill in damaged originals or a whole new set for a descendant. Even the glaze imperfections, “orange peel” surface and the modeling are close to 18th century originals.

Two Samson bottle vases and an 18th century plate of this design were sold at a Christie’s sale in New York on January 21, 2009, lot #231 A teapot, cover and stand, and a tea cup and saucer enameled with the arms of Cruikshank, scroll mantling and palm leaves, crest, a thistle erect, motto, Per ardua honuin, flower sprays and borders of pink and gold diaper, famille rose, Yung-cheng were on display MARCH 8th snd 9th, 1923 in the Catalog of PUTTICK and SIMPSON, LONDON selling the collection of “THE RENOWNED AND EXTENSIVE COLLECTION OF Chinese Armorial Porcelain Formed by the late FREDERICK ARTHUR CRISP, Esq., F.S.A.,”
