Relief Portrait of St. Cecilia the Patroness of Musicians
Ca. 1880
A cast relief of St. Cecilia known as the patroness of musicians perhaps modeled after a Renaissance example in the Toledo Museum of Art in Ohio. The base is plaster with a very fine texture finish that has an alabaster appearance. The ogee molded frame of the interior, part of the entire casting, is painted with a deep brown salmon color with floral and leaf design extending onto the portrait. The background of the portrait has a pale blue light sky. Her blouse has an incised shallow all over design. All contained in a glass, gilt and black shadow frame. Please be aware that glass can be problematical when shipped.

Condition
Very good antique condition. There are small dings and some paint loss to the black frame. The liner shows appropriate aging. The plaster relief has a small loss to the surface at the bottom of the profile just left of center.
