Antique Regency Style One Drawer Writing or Reading Table, 19th Century

European 19th Century

A very attractive mahogany, cherry and tiger maple tripod based adjustable reading table with an inset gold tooled leather writing surface. The original pulls are brass in the rococo revival style used in the Regency period. The narrow board used for the book rest is easily removed for ease of use for writing. The turned pillar has carved flutes in the upper section and swirled flutes on the central urn and inlaid tiger maple panels at the base. The cabriole legs end in shod pad feet with the original brass casters for easy moving. The top has an easily adjustable mechanical device for varying the incline. This is an unusual design which is difficult to determine whether it was made in England or north western Europe.
