Historical Staffordshire Plate “The Landing of Gen, Lafayette”

This scene was produced for the American market to commemorate the triumphant return of America’s aging hero of the Revolutionary War. At the invitation of the US government Lafayette was sent on a year long tour of the young nation to receive loving tributes and see for himself how the nation had prospered. The full title is “Landing of Gen. Lafayette at Castle Garden New York 16 August, 1824. It is marked with an impressed stamp by the maker James and Ralph Clews.

Condition

Very good condition. Numerous scattered light scratches and glaze rubbing in the central area. The edge of the rim has numerous tiny dings. No repairs or chips.
