George III Blanket Chest, Mahogany Ca. 1760
Great Britain Ca. 1760
These blanket chests are seldom offered for sale in North America compared with a wide variety of American ones. It is made from wonderful quality mahogany with oak secondary wood. Constructed in two separate parts, the box containing two drawers sits in the base frame that it fits into. The oak back board is dovetailed into the sides and the mahogany front is “blind” dovetailed into the sides.
Very good antique condition. It retains a very old pleasing finish as well as the original hardware. There have been some repairs to the separate base but very little in the way of wood replacement. It has normal shrinkage cracks, and other signs of wear and careful usage.
