Gabriel Edward Adams, Material Study (in advance of a sculpture) Charcoal

USA and New Zealand 2017

Material Study (in advance of a sculpture) is a mixed media large scale drawing, composed as a literal material study. It is completed from direct observation of a large crushed structure of steel. Often artists make such studies in small scale, as in the work of Henry Moore, but as a quick sketch in advance of moving forward with a formal work. Here the artist monumentalizes such a sketch as a finished work in itself.

Materials: cotton rag paper (fabbriano archival), charcoal, conte, chalk, and gesso.
Year: 2017
