English Regency Rosewood Sofa Table

England Ca. 1820

A very nice example from England, made in the 1st quarter of the 19th century. It is in remarkably good condition showing only the slight repairs to cross-banded elements. The finish is low luster. There is a single drawer on one side that has red cedar linings. The brass pulls appear to be the original. Most sofa tables have either splits in the tops that have been filled due to the forces of nature causing the wood to shrink. When the wood shrinks across the top the leaves tend to not hang flat along the sides when the supports are placed in their pockets. As this table has not been altered or had any cracks filled the leaves when not in use do not hang perfectly vertical. I didn’t want to make the decision to extend each side of the top. I leave that to the purchaser.
