Early 19th Century Gilt French Mirror With Liberty Cap Carving

France Ca. 1820

This is the first mirror frame I have ever encountered with a carved Liberty Cap and crossed armaments. Americans also used the Liberty Cap in early patriotic symbolism. Other than that the ornamentation is associated with Louis XVI neoclassical ornamentation. Either made for a prosperous French household or<br /> for export to the USA. Thomas Jefferson is known to have purchased the latest styles from France including gilt furnishings.

Very good with age appropriate imperfections.

Height: 4 ft. 2 in.
