Dark Blue Staffordshire Plate, The Valentine Ca. 1825

England Ca. 1825

A dark blue and white transfer ware plate made and marked by Clews. The printed title on the back side is “The Valentine – From Wilkie’s Designs”. The scene shows an interior of a tavern with a man reading a letter, a child, a dog, two other patrons and a barmaid.
The original painting or drawing for this may have been done by the well known and prolific Scottish artist Sir David Wilkie.

This was a difficult item to get an accurate color representation of. The blues are much darker and the white areas much whiter than appears in the photos.

18th Century Queen Anne Mahogany Tray Top Tea Table

From any angle just a lovely table. Though it looks very English in form, I believe it is Continental, possibly Dutch. Graceful cabriole legs, a single drawer with the original brass, scalloped frieze and a raised edge with peaked corners.
