Country Chippendale Chairs

American Ca. 1800

An interesting pair of American country ladder back side chairs made around 1800. They are maple retaining an early or original  reddish brown wash. Pinned construction with later replaced natural rush seats. These were probably made in New England

Price

$350

Condition

Overall very good with normal signs of age. There is a hole on one back leg where the stretcher boring was either done too deep and protruded through or an old attempt of re-gluing. The seats at some point were redone and are very tight. One chair is lighter in color than the other from natural use.

Measurements

36.5" H X 20" W X 20.25" D

New England Maple and Tiger Maple Queen Anne Side Chair Ca. 1750

A very fine quality New England Pre-Revolutionary War era chair in an excellent state of preservation. It appears to retain it’s original brown wash and finish. Vertical proportions suggest Connecticut or Massachusetts. A nearly identical example is illustrated in Antiques from the Israel Sack Collection, Vol. VI, P. 1614
