Classical Mirror, European Ca. 1820

Europe, possibly France Ca. 1820

Classical Mirror Ca. 1820 of enormous size, European, possibly France. Wow! what a stunning behemoth. This is painted slightly off white (atmospheric and handling accumulation) with gold leafed appliques and moldings. The painted bottom or base board is reminiscent of tortoise shell and theĀ  columns are mottled in various shades of green. The large two piece mirror plates are undoubtedly original.

Price

$8800

Condition

Very good for its age. There are numerous small imperfections which is to be expected in water gilding and paint over a gesso base (on the two columns). Some of the gold leaf may have been refreshed years ago. There is a shrinkage crack the width of the inset top panel.
