Chinese Export Rose Canton, Mandarin Subject Small Mug

China 1840

An exceptionally beautiful example of Mandarin subject Chinese porcelain made for the Western Market. The colors are very strong with lots of gold highlights. The band at the top features two dragons of opposing colors centered by a flaming pearl. Minimal rubbing to the gold, mostly at the rim. No repairs.

I find there is a lack of information of how to date rose canton of this variety. It is common to find attributions from the late 18th century to the late 19th century. As later productions seem to decline in quality I play it safe with a middle compromise.

English Worcester 18th Century Cabbage Leaf Dish

Early production of The Worcester factory in the form of overlapping cabbage leaves. The naturalistic polychrome painting is of an exotic bird perched on a swagged vine with butterflies and a yellow lady bug. The two main veins of the leaves are a pastel pink. The edge is lined in gold.
