American Eagle Decorated Chinese Coffee Pot, Ca. 1800

China Ca. 1800

This porcelain eagle decorated lighthouse form coffee pot was specifically made for the new American Republic market from the end of the 18th Century into the Federal period.

At the time this coffee pot was produced there were only a few factories successfully producing true porcelain in Europe while the Chinese already had a nearly 1000 year tradition of porcelain making. The Chinese were always searching for new opening markets to ship their wares. Ship owners, store merchants and individuals placed orders in various designs by supplying colored drawings of what they wanted.
