American Cherry Tilt Top Tea Table, Ca. 1770

A bold example probably made in Pennsylvania with added features of a molded dished rim and the turning “bird cage” device. This table retains a very pleasing mellow old finish.

Condition

Excellent antique condition. Minimal repair. The only replacements are the key holding the bird cage in place and the strike plate for the lock which appears to have been fashioned in the late Victorian period.

Luminous Landscape Attributed to American Charles Codman

A lovely sunset landscape attributed to Portland, Maine artist Charles Codman (b. 1800, d.1842). Codman’s work is represented in several US museums (see artist biography section on my gallery home page) and most recently the Portland Museum of art mounted a retrospective in 2003 of Codman’s work which is described on their web site.
