Pair Needlework Portraits, Ca. 1790, probably English. These oval needlework portraits are augmented with water colors on silk surrounded by a curled paper border of two gilded bands enclosing repeating “C” scrolls over gray crushed sparkling mica. All underneath a gold and black painted glass mat. The frames are gilded. There appear to be two layers of back boards, the top one showing significant age screwed to a bottom board not examined.

The seated man with a gray/white wig looking downward towards his daughter and holds a bird’s nest with several eggs that his daughter is showing him. The seated woman wearing a frilly deep cap is looking down at her suckling infant which she holds in her arms.

Condition

These are bright and clean. The early frames have  small signs of repair and gilt touch up. The silk background is a bit wavy.
Over all in very good antique condition.
