Cherry Highboy, Connecticut, Ca. 1770

Cherry highboy made in the Colechester area of Connecticut in the last third of the 18th century. The upper and lower cases each with a fan carving and undulating chip gouged border. Tall graceful legs with bold knee carving, hocked pad feet and the original brass hardware.

This highboy is illustrated in the 2005 major work published by the Connecticut Historical Society, Connecticut Valley Furniture, page 216 (a similar highboy is pictured on page 215). Additionally two similar highboys are illustrated, one in Sotheby’s Important Americana catalog of June, 1994, #559 (sold at $36,800), the other in a full page ad in The Magazine Antiques, January 2001, page 41.

Very good antique condition with normal signs of over 200 years of age and usage. There are several minor professionally repaired patches. Original brasses and pendant drops.
