Sterling Silver Open Salt Cellars, London,1805 by John Emes
England 1805
A matched set of 4 English Sterling open master salt cellars with gold washed bowls. Three of these were made by John Emes of London in 1805. One appears to be a duplicate made later in the century (marks rubbed).
The oval gold washed bowls have molded rims of C scrolls, leaves and pectin shells. Just below the rim on the outer body is a band of anthemions with a single engraved winged mythological creature heraldic device below. The bodies sit on lion paw feet with leafage on the knees. 31.8 troy oz.
