Sterling Silver Coffee Pot by Krider, Philadelphia Ca. 1880

United States Ca. 1880

A sterling silver coffee pot made by Peter L. Krider of Philadelphia in the late classical manner. It has a cast flower and leafage finial, 4 decorative molded bands and inverted curved panel body. It is marked on the bottom “STERLING” and “PHILADA” with the three  marks for Krider of a lion, K and a crown. It weighs 36.1 troy oz..

This may have been created to match a large coin silver cream pitcher and open sugar currently in stock stamped “Ball, Tompkins and Black”. These which were made around 1840. Like the cream pitcher it bears the family name of Appleton,  possibly made for a Judge C.E. Appleton of Fairfield County, CT..

At the time of posting I also have an open sugar matching the Ball, Tompkins and Black  pitcher.
