Coin Silver Pitcher by Ball, Tompkins & Black

American Ca. 1840

Coin Silver cream or milk pitcher stamped “Ball, Tompkins and Black, Successors to Marquand & Co.” of Philadelphia. The design is a late Classical/early Victorian type with the concave shallow tapered panels. It has four molded bands of a repetitive stylized spade or Gothic arch pattern. It was probably made around 1840, possibly for a Judge C.E. Appleton of Fairfield County, CT. Total weight is 13.4 troy oz.
