Boston Coin Silver Soup Ladle, Ca. 1800

American Ca. 1800

A Boston Coin Silver Federal period soup ladle signed “PARKMAN”. There seems to be conflicting references to this particular mark as to which Parkman, Thomas, Charles or John. John is the earliest known and is probably not his product and Charles and Thomas are known to have also used their first initial. What ever the case the two more recent Parkmans are listed as working from about 1798 to 1820. This one has the date1806 engraved next to the cypher “A.I.R”. It weighs 7.6 troy oz.

Fireplace Fender, Ca. 1830

A vigorously curved serpentine shaped fireplace fender made of brass and iron. This has an infrequently seen cross brace between the ends of the serpentine curves. This is the first time I have seen brass feet that resemble the base of some Boston classical andirons.
