English Bombay Form Mahogany Tea Caddy, Ca. 1750

England Ca. 1750

The bombay form is rarely encountered in English and American furniture as it took a more skilled cabinet maker a great deal of extra time to produce than the straight sided examples. This one appears to retain its original finish. The front highly figured crotch mahogany. The top is crotch mahogany banded with curly mahogany and topped off with the original bale brass handle. It rests on ogee bracket feet. Secondary woods are oak and walnut.
