A delightful pair of Chinese export roosters made in the last quarter of the 18th century.
The white bodies are molded and incised to simulate feathers. Each stands on one foot and supported on a rock work base.

Condition

Very good antique condition. One comb has been re-stuck and the other has the tip of the beak restored. Only a few minor scattered small chips.

This is a Chinese porcelain tureen made for the Western market. It displays finely delineated details, a colorful pallet and complex design elements. The cover and under plate have a heraldic device of a phoenix. All three pieces have the same Mandarin courtyard scene. The base has a rabbit formed handle on each end.
