Rare Pair of American Federal Tiger Maple Candle Stands

United States Late 1820s/early 1830s

A matched pair of late Federal period candle stands associated with the Springfield area of Massachusetts. One retains possibly its original surface and the other has a very old surface on its top. I’ve had one in my home for about 25 years and just found the other. Several of this basic type have shown up over the years but none with the sophistication, undoubtedly by the same maker, of these two. A closely related table is illustrated in Walace Nutting’s Furniture Treasury, plate #1395.
